Nab is Ky Kyselle's Grapploct, and the second Pokémon he ever acquired.

Personality

In battle, Nab puts up the persona of one of his favorite video game characters, making him appear as a fierce, no-nonsense soldier intensely loyal to the non-existent country of Zipp who will stop at nothing to vanquish his opponent. Outside of battle, however, he's a cheerful, friendly guy who loves videogames, especially fighting games, and is always willing to lend a hand or two (or four or eight) to those who seem like they need it. He's a fairly decent tactician due to applying his knowledge of fighting games to actual battles, and has a good deal of experience due to having once belonged to a skill trainer, but is by no means a master of the art of combat despite this.

Relationships

Ky: Despite having been abused by his prior trainer, Nab trusts Ky and believes the best in him. He recognizes that Ky is not the most skilled trainer, but is willing to lend all of the advice that he knows as well as his own strength to help him improve and make it further in the world. He also appreciates that Ky allows him to ramble about fighting games sometimes, and generally enables his interests.

Yu: Yu initially didn't like Nab, though Nab always liked him, but once Nab made it clear that his in-battle persona was not how he always acted, they became close friends. Still, Nab can occasionally do things that make Yu frustrated despite this, though their bond endures.

Mel: Nab and Mel are friends, possibly even closer friends than Nab and Yu since Mel greatly enjoys Nab's antics and finds him a very interesting person to hang around. It's because of Nab that Mel joined Ky's team in the first place.

Lulu: Nab sort of pities Lulu due to how she doesn't always get her wish for violence and is often restrained by Yu, and wishes she wasn't nearly as chaotic, but is still nice to her and as willing to land a hand to her as he is to any other member of the team.

Trivia

  • Nab's in-battle persona is a reference to the character Potemkin from Guilty Gear.
  • Nab's Hasslemon handle, grappleBuster, is a reference to his fighting style as a "grappler" who's slow but bulk and gets in close to grab his opponent for huge damage, in addition to Potemkin's famous Potemkin Buster move and Nab's own version of Seismic Toss inspired by it which he calls the Nab Buster.
