Bubble Shield is a move akin to a water type Substitute. However, rather than creating a plush likeness/a layer of armor to absorb hits, the user instead envelopes themselves in a bubble, in a similar fashion to how one would blow a Dive Bubble. However, like Substitute, blowing a Bubble Shield will cost the user 1/4 of thier HP, which will create a Bubble large enough to protect the user. More HP, however, can be expended to make the bubble large enough to protect multiple peoplemons...or simply for showing off.

Although made of water, they have a consistency similar to a sort of soft rubber or plastic, meaning it will easily give if you press against it, but is still firm enough to not be punctured without applying a large amount of pressure.

As well as being used defensively, Bubble Shield has a more offensive use in being able to trap an opponent and hold it in place, hopefully long enough to be able use a powerful technique against them. Your foe will be most likely be far too preoccupied trying to burst their make-shift prison to see that Focus Blast or Thunder coming their way.

Finally, bubbles created by this move have various other usages. One of the most common is to blow a bubble to sleep on or inside as a make-shift bed or tent. Another common use is as a form of trampoline, as they can be quite easily bounced upon to gain a large amount of air.

With the bubbles produced by Suicune (As noted before, the Pokemon who developed the move), they were able to produce a Bubble Fort know as [[Fort Beast]] at Sophian Road on it's namesake Island. With the help of some others, they were able to produce another fort in a Park in Jubilife City to stay in while the [[Gold Conference]] was being held. [[Phantom]] and [[Hallow]] damaged it by popping load bearing bubbles as part of a prank. After the end of the Conference, it was popped completely as clean up before the beasts returned to Oblivia.

The user of this move sacrifices a 1/4 of their maximum HP to make the bubble. If they don't have enough HP to make one, the move will fail.

While this does depend on the HP of the Pokémon who initially blew the bubble, just about any Bubble Shield can protect against one attack before it pops. As with the similar move, Substitute, they also provide immunity to all status conditions and flinching.
