Personality
Once Poppy sets her mind onto something, she does not stop. She's willing to fulfill her goals no matter what (good thing she's not a criminal), and she's a bit clever too. She's very protective of her Pokemon and her friends as well. When her brother was badly injured and placed in a coma, she deep down blamed herself for it and strived to become stronger. This affected her to the point she saw her Pokemon as nothing more but tools to save her brother with, but soon snapped out of her funk, resulting in her becoming not just a stronger trainer, but also a mentally stronger person. She also cannot tell whether Sophia's name is Sophia or Sophie, and thinks it would be too awkward to ask now. After learning that Sophie and her own father had been working together to craft a Pokemon crime-fighting team, and that her biological mother was dead and Brayden had known about it, she became cold and distant toward humans she didn't trust - which was most of them, but remained her excitable self in front of her Pokemon.
Appearance
She has brown hair that goes down to the shoulders, blue eyes, and is typically seen wearing a t-shirt with jeans. She also wears a yellow hat, and carries a purse around to keep her belongings, like her Pokeballs and her Rotom Phone.
Biography
Before the Journey
Poppy spent her life growing up in Fortree City in the Hoenn region, staying home with her mother. As for her father, he ran a ranch located on the outskirts of town, and stayed there one weekend every fortnight. And she didn't see her brother as much since he became a Pokemon Ranger. One day when her 12th birthday was coming up, however, when her dad asked her what she'd like to become, Poppy did not know what to answer with. Was she going to become stronger via challenging the Gyms? Or follow in her brother's footsteps and become a Pokemon Ranger? And that's not even to mention the Pokemon Contests they had in the region as well as some other regions. She just didn't know. On her 12th birthday, however, she received a gift from her brother, which seemed to be a small box with a letter. The letter said that one day, while on a mission, he ended up discovering a Pokeball that had a Pokemon inside but didn't seem to belong to a trainer, and he decided that he'd give it to her as a birthday gift. She opened the Pokeball and out came a Cyclizar, as he became her partner Pokemon, and she gave him a name: Donut. A year later, on her 13th birthday, she got to accompany her brother on one of his missions to see what being a Ranger is like up close. The mission went smoothly as all she did was follow her brother and stay behind him to be safe, but now she still hadn't decided whether she was going to become a Trainer, a Coordinator, or a Ranger. So her parents decided on something - they teamed up, went out and bought Pokeballs, a purse, and other equipment she would need on a journey (camping equipment, Cyclizar riding equipment etc) and the next day, told her she was going on a journey, to her shock! They made her promise she'd find a goal and see it through, and she eventually hesitantly agreed - after 2 weeks of persuasion. So now all she had was Donut, and equipment for her upcoming journey: a journey to find a destination.
Hoenn Beginnings
After setting out on her journey, she soon ran into a Shroomish, as well as two Pokèmon Rangers, who decided to take her to see her brother in Slateport City. On the way, Poppy caught the Shroomish after he snuck on board the helicopter (much to Donut's dismay) and named him Shroomy. After reuniting with her brother, he suggested she train on Route 110, where she eventually encountered an injured Vulpix, who she took back to the Slateport Pokèmon Center. Soon after she caught Vulpix and named her Sunrise. She then decided to travel to Rustboro City and battled the city's Gym Leader, Roxanne, though she unfortunately lost the battle. Later, she went to Granite Cave to rescue a boy, became trapped, as her brother, Brayden, then went to save the boy. She managed to catch an Aron, Crusher before passing out and waking up in the hospital, where she learned her brother was in a coma. From there, she knew what she had to do: travel the world, and become stronger, as she felt it was the least she could do ever since failing to save her brother.
Kalos Training
Poppy went on to receive a Lapras Egg which eventually hatched into Nessa, and got training from a Kalos trainer named Sophie. After which, she sought to become stronger by challenging the Paldean Gyms, so she travelled there.
Paldean Gym Run
Poppy soon arrived in Paldea and caught her next member, Stormwind the Wattrel, and defeated Katy, earning her first Gym Badge. After which, she obtained a Tera Orb from Naranja y Uva Academy, but didn't stick around long enough to choose her starter, which led the school to send a Squawkabilly to deliver the Pokèballs so she could choose her starter. After the Squawkabilly was fended off by a fearful Crusher, one Pokèball landed on his back, which soon opened, revealing a new friend - Lila the Sprigatito, who Poppy kept as it was technically her Paldean starter. From there, after a run-in with Titan Klawf (during which Sunrise evolved), she learned of the Herba Mystica, and decided to collect them all in hopes of creating a sandwich with the ultimate healing properties to save her brother. She then went on to defeat Gym Leader Brassius, earning the Grass Badge. After a clash with the Titan Bombirdier where not only did Stormwind evolve, but she earned the second Herba Mystica, her quest to heal her brother had started taking a toll on her mental state, becoming less excitable and more consumed by her guilt. After defeating Iono and the Titan Orthworm, this became more apparent to the members as she told them next up they were heading straight for the Quaking Earth Titan in Asado Desert, notable as there were actually two Titans. She battled them - and she and her team were absolutely annihilated. That night she got into an argument with the team, during which she called them all 'tools', leading to them leaving, but not being officially released. That night, Shroomy ran off to face the Titans alone to prove Poppy wrong. The next morning, to find Shroomy, they stole Poppy's Rotom Phone and used it to track his location, leading to a battle that began with the Titans eating the Herba Mystica and not only regaining full health but gaining a power boost. After Poppy realised she was wrong, she tried taking a hit for the team but was protected by Lila, who evolved into Floragato to save her. After a battle involving teamwork from all seven team members, Poppy obtained her fourth Herba Mystica. Later that night, Poppy apologized to everyone and announced her break from her Herba Mystica quest, so they could do the Gym Challenge to strengthen everyone's bonds. With everyone's relationships restored, Poppy continued her journey, except now, due to the events that transpired, she was now able to understand Monese and thus understood her Pokemon better. She then went on to earn the Water and Normal Badges, and had a run in with a Gastly and learned about Donut's backstory - where she reaffirmed that she would never abandon him. However, Nessa, who was affected by these events and what she saw, helped Poppy win the Ghost Badge, albeit at the cost of her not being her usual self. Seeing Nessa no longer see things as worthwhile, she had an idea. After winning the Alfornada Gym Battle, she took Nessa to her late grandpa's house, explaining that while he knew he would die, it didn’t stop him from helping out several Pokèmon. After realising the door was unlocked, she discovered a Pawmi that her grandpa had been looking after prior to his death, and decided to catch him, naming him Pancake. She decided to make a pit stop near Casseroya Lake before climbing Glaseado Mountain for the final Gym Badge, where Lila encountered Titan Tatsugiri, but had a misunderstanding with it that caused a battle between it and Dondozo, causing Lila to evolve. After the battle, Poppy was given the Spicy Herba Mystica as recompense, and now she had all the Herba Mystica required for her to make the sandwich to save Brayden with. After making the sandwich and sending it to her family, she trekked up Glaseado Mountain, unbeknowst to her at the time, Brayden recovered after tasting the sandwich. During the trek, an incident occurred in which not only Crusher evolved, but Nessa broke free of her depression. After defeating Grusha, she headed back to Mesagoza for the Paldea League, during which she ran into Donut's old trainer, Levi, who challenged her to a 1v1. After an intense battle with Tera-Dragon Donut going up against his Mega Garchomp, Donut ended up winning the battle. Poppy ended up receiving Rex the Gible from Levi as he thought she was the right trainer to give to her, and she made for the League. She left Shroomy, Pancake and Rex in the box, and entered the League. The three Pokemon then soon found themselves with Poppy's parents, including her brother. Meanwhile, Poppy defeated all Elite Four members, then went to face Geeta, ultimately defeating her and becoming a Champion-ranked trainer - she had successfully become stronger. That evening, she reunited with her family, including her brother, who she learned she had succesfully saved. A few weeks later, Poppy started to wonder what her next move would be until receiving a call from Sophia, inviting her to learn about Mega Evolution. Enthusiastic, she packed her things and left for Kalos, unbeknowst to her, she was being followed by a Haunter who sought to talk to her.
Return to Kalos
Upon returning to Kalos and arriving at Sophia's house, she told Sophia of her journey and what she had been up to. After learning that neither Crusher nor Rex were super keen on Mega Evolving, Sophia decided to give Poppy a challenge - to catch a Pokemon capable of Mega Evolving and raise a strong bond with it from the ground up, then come see her in Shalour City. With that, Poppy set off once more. Soon after, she added Battletoad the Froakie and Amber the Eevee to her team, before finally adding a Mon capable of Mega Evolving to her team in Shadow. Unfortunately, he seemed unwilling to cooperate, however a solution soon came in the form of Teriyaki the Torchic, who was far more enthusiastic about Mega Evolution. Additionally, Rex evolved, and the Haunter seeking her out managed to capture himself while Poppy was asleep, without her realising. On a voyage to Mega Island, the Haunter revealed himself to her, and she named him Ron, soon after, her Pokemon were taken from her by Sophia. However, she was rescued by Levi soon after, and brought to Blueberry Academy. From there, she received Ginny the Fennekin, and tracked her Pokemon to her house. From there, she learned that Sophie had been working with her father, Tim, to create a perfect crime-fighting Pokemon team ever since the death of the latter's wife. She also learned that her mother was actually her step-mother, and her biological mother died years ago - and Brayden knew about it too. She then made a frantic escape with the rest of her Pokemon with a Clefairy also trapped using Metronome and calling Teleport, sending them all to the Wild Area in Galar.
Galar Grievances
After Poppy caught several Pokemon that had stowed away, she spent the next few months at Blueberry Academy until receiving word that Brayden wanted to go on a road trip with her across Galar. As it said that Poppy would not need to talk to him again after the trip was done, Poppy reluctantly decided to come along.
Battle Strategy
Poppy, whenever she battles, uses whatever tricks her Pokemon have up their sleeves in hopes of getting the win. For instance, if she's battling with Donut, chances are she'll make use of his speed or his Shed Tail move. She takes losses well depending on her mental state at the time, if she's upset about something, chances are after losing a battle, she'll start to feel even worse. But if she's doing just fine, then the loss won't really bother her.
