Purge of the Alakagross
The Purge of the Alakagross was an event that took place more than 100,000 years prior to the start of WAAPT that led to the end of the Alakagross Civilization's global empire.
Origins
During the climax of the Alakagross Civil War one of the factions managed to purposely activate the Mt. Pyre caldera in an attempt to try to destroy the other, forcing the Weather Trio to sacrifice themselves in the Volcano Rites ceremony in order to stop it, though many still died as a result. The legendaries decided that they could no longer turn a blind eye to the Alakagross' flagrant disregard for the lives of other Pokémon and early humanity, and decided to remove them from the equation.
The Purge
First, the legendaries blasted their major cities at their full power, killing millions outright, before moving in to clean up any survivors.
The legendaries were absolutely merciless in their punishment of the Alakagross for their callousness, as next to everyone who managed to survive the initial razing of their cities ended up getting killed by the legendaries as they did clean-up operations. Those who managed to survive went back to living as wild Pokémon, save for those who made smaller remnant groups, such as the X-Nauts.
Chrome was one such survivor due to a Shaymin taking mercy on him after Darkrai nearly killed him back when he was a collective of Beldum, and the experience left him an anti-theist.
