O-oh! You're here! That's great... I could really use some food right now. I've been starving for ages... do you have any marshmallows? They're my favorite... so soft and squishy... maybe put it in a s'more; t-that'll make it even better...

Oh... that's a shame... I guess I'll have to call Kim and see if she can't get me any...

Oh! I get it! You want to learn more about me, don't you? U-um... okay... I've never really done this before, but I'd be glad to introduce myself to you. I-I'm Kaylan. I'm Kimberly Bond's Grotle, and I'm the fourth Pokemon she caught on her adventure. It's really nice to meet you all... I hope we can become really great friends... s-so... yeah.

Personality

Okay, so... to start with... I'm a Grotle, like I said. Which means that I like taking things slow. I'm a relatively relaxed and patient Pokemon. I-I'm not quite as relaxed as Joel is, of course... Joel's really mellow... but I still like to focus more on the here and now than focusing on the past. I can get pretty exciteable from time to time... especially regarding battles, o-or food, o-or singing. Though the singing thing kind of depends on the artist... Jimmy Buffett's where I feel the most confident. Anyways... if there's one thing that really gets me excited more than anything else, it's my favorite food in the world... MARSHMALLOWS!

I love marshmallows... they're like little fluffy clouds that I can eat... so yummy... s'mores are the best... marshmallows... and chocolate... and... O-oh! Sorry about that, I got distracted by marshmallows again... That happens a lot. I love marshmallows so much that usually it's the first thing I ask people. We were at Umbra's wedding and I bonded with this sweet and funny Hydreigon named Alduin... he seemed scary at first, but he liked marshmallows, too! We got along really well because of that. Of course, I don't just eat marshmallows. I like eating other foods, too... like gummy bears... and cheeseburgers... and apples... and applesauce... and chocolate... and a bunch of soft mushy foods that you don't need teeth to eat. Of course, sometimes my gluttony can get the best of me... in fact, that's how Kim and I first met. Back when I was just a Turtwig at Rowan's lab, I was having a wonderful dream about marshmallows and how fluffy they were... and in my dream I was eating all these marshmallows. I thought that Chimchar's tail was a marshmallow for some reason, and so I bit it... and it burnt my mouth. The Chimchar woke up and got mad at me for biting his tail, and I got mad at him for burning my mouth, and a misunderstanding happened... fortunately Paul was there to help Chimchar and I realize what was going on. Soon afterwards, Kim caught me and we've been friends ever since.

Of course, while I do like food... I care much more about my Trainer and my friends than I do about food. Like... y-you know about Halloween night, don't you...? That was really scary... this strange entity called Jigsaw dragged me into a torture room. I was given 2 hours to eat a whole buffet's worth of food... or I was going to get my face chopped to bits. Y-you'd probably think I could manage it, b-but I didn't know if I could... Still, though! I- I wanted to complete it... so I tried to... a-and then all of a sudden I was broken out by Braker and Caboose. They told me that Kim had been possessed by Jigsaw... it was horrible... she was absolutely devastated and thought all of her friends hated her, and it was horrible to watch... I felt like crying... thankfully she's okay now, though.

Now, what else can I tell you...? O-oh! Right!

Um... I get really nervous sometimes. I'm a naturally shy Pokemon. I'm not as bad as Freddie is, but I can still get really nervous. Especially regarding singing. See, I-- I have a naturally soft and squeaky voice, so I get really worried that I won't project well enough, and... did I tell you about the Battle of the Bands? I don't think I told you about that... Anyways... normally I play the drums in Kim's band. It's called "New Dawn's Dreamers"... b-but anyways... yeah, I normally play the drums in it, except for one time when Kim picked me to sing "Don't Look Back in Anger". I was really nervous about how my voice would sound... especially since we were going up against Kendall and his band Shadow Cast... I didn't know if Kendall was going to like it or not. B-but I got up and did it anyways... and it turned out to be more fun than I expected! Kim still forfeited, though... but I have to give it to Shadow Cast. That cover they did of that one song... I think it was called "Jambalaya"? Yeah, that was really cool!

...wait, it's not called "Jambalaya"? T-then what is it called?

..."JAMBI"! That's it! I was close... I must have been distracted by food again...

Anyways... there's another thing I'm nervous about... and that's conflict. E-except if somebody's hurting me or my friends, I don't really like conflict. T-the truth is... I hate seeing others in pain and I hate seeing other Pokemon get angry. One time Dio was really sad because he was thinking about his old Trainer... and so I comforted him... I still don't think I'm as good at comforting Pokemon as Geddy is, though. Geddy's really good at comforting other Pokemon. Later on, though... it happened again... and that time around I was really shocked. Dio lost to Cof during a battle against Hoops at Wyndon Stadium... a-and he was really devastated about it... W-when he logged on online to Hasslemon he initially just typed with those dot thingies... I'd never seen that before, but then he started typing normally... H-he usually types in all caps, so Joel and I could immediately tell something was up. I definitely had never seen that before... especially when he was talking to us. So... I guess I'm more perceptive than I initially thought... but I'm still not as good as Geddy. Geddy is far better than I am still at comforting Pokemon.

B-by the way... it may not seem like it, but I actually really like battling. I-it helps me to get stronger, a-and because I'm a Grotle I can avoid attacks easier... there was one time where Kim, Kendall and I battled a Dynamax Abomasnow and I took it down with few Sunny Days and then a Max Steelspike... though to be fair Sunny did most of the work... I just wanted to help her. I also got to Dynamax for the first time ever, which was really cool. A-and then Kim used me against Nessa and I went up against Golisopod and I used Protect to shield myself from Golisopod's one chance at a supereffective hit. Those days were great... but for a while Kim didn't really use me all that much in battles... I mean, I helped her during her Gym Challenge in Stow-on-Side and then I helped with the personality switches that happened among Kim's team members on April Fools' Day... that day was a bit scary, honestly, but I got through it. But for a long time, Kim didn't really use me all that much... and then Circhester happened, and she used me against Melony's Lapras. I gotta be honest, the Lapras was a bit scary... especially since she had Ice-type moves... but I had Iron Tail, and that helped me counter them... Oh! And I also got to Dynamax again, so that was really cool! I also got to see a Gigantamax for the first time... at least I think I did, anyways... I feel like I'd only ever seen Dynamaxing before...

Speaking of Hulbury, though... Dalt and I evolved at the same time during it... and ever since then we've kind of developed a bit of a friendship with each other. We do a ton of things together... we tried to learn Japanese from Yuki together, and it was loads of fun. Dalt got confused about the wa/ga divide, though... but everyone gets confused about the wa/ga divide... so I tried to help him. Also... don't tell anybody I said this... but he and I are both in the Riolu Rebels together. It's basically the younger version of the Aurabolts. My hero name is Testudyne... and his is Whizzard... and there's another one too but I'm not going to tell you who he is. That-- that'll remain a secret for now...

Oh! A-and there's one last thing. Kim likes making these things called personality profiles, and they're pretty much exactly what they sound like. She catches a new Pokemon and then she writes about what they're like. She wrote one for me... do you want to see it...?

• Met: Kim met me in Sandgem Town when I was a Turtwig. She got me from Professor Rowan's lab. I think I'm the only Pokemon she got from a lab...
• Ability: Overgrow. I-it raises the power of my Grass-type moves when my HP gets low... b-but I think you knew that already...
• Favorite Move: A tie between Protect and Leech Seed. I like the former because it allows me to shield myself from supereffective hits, and I like the latter because it allows me to regain my HP-- and also technically attack without really doing much of anything...
• Nature: Gentle. I-I'd say it's fitting... I'm a pretty patient Pokemon...
• Characteristic: Loves to eat. Um... you already know that... r-right?
• Ball: A simple Poke Ball, of course.
• Evolves in: I evolved during Kim's Hulbury Gym Battle when I was knocked to low HP and Overgrow started to kick in. Dalt evolved too... so that was really fun...
• Hasslemon typing quirk: S[]... um... I d[]n't really kn[]w if y[]u kn[]w this... but we all have Hasslem[]n typing quirks n[]w. Mine has all the "o"'s replaced by d[]uble brackets... because they l[][]k like a big fluffy marshmall[]w... I c[]uldn't really c[]me up with anything better, but every[]ne seemed t[] like it and th[]ught it was cute... s[] I'm keeping it. []h, and als[] s[]metimes elipses can be a bit []verused, but []verall... it's n[]t t[][] bad, especially when c[]mpared t[] Freddie... s[]rry, Freddie.

Okay... so... here are a few more things you probably didn't know about me...

• I was named after this guy named Howard Kaylan, from this band called The Turtles. G-get it? B-because I'm a turtle Pokemon...? They wrote a song called "Happy Together", which I think you might have heard of... I certainly have heard of it, but they're not my favorite band in the world. O-or my favorite artist, for that matter. That goes to Jimmy Buffett. I really love listening to him... his music is so relaxing... a-anyways, I'm the only one of Kim's mons that was named after a musician where the musician I was named after doesn't match up with my favorite artist. So... so I guess that kind of makes me special?
• I have two chat handles, and they're both about marshmallows... of course. My non-Hasslemon handle is literally iheartmarshmallowz, and my Hasslemon handle is marshmallowLover (ML)... a-am I too obsessed?
• S-so... so Kim gave everyone on her team character themes... she gave us two of them, in fact. One's regular; one's from Broadway. My regular character theme is "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes" by Jimmy Buffett, meaning I'm the only member of Kim's team named for a musician to not have my regular character theme match up with the artist I was named for. I used to- my theme used to be "Happy Together" by the Turtles- but everyone knows that song... also it's about unrequited love. "Changes", meanwhile, is about living life in the here and now, and has lines about eating and drinking and dreaming of the ocean... it's pretty fitting for me, honestly. My Broadway theme is this song called "Waving Through a Window" from this musical called Dear Evan Hansen... it's supposed to be about my nervousness... I like it... but I feel like there could be a better Broadway song for me out there.
• I have a human form too... in that form, I go by the name "Howie Volman". "Howie" comes from "Howard"... as in Howard Kaylan... the musician I was named after, and "Volman" comes from this guy named Mark Volman... he's the other lead singer of the Turtles... I think the two of them have a band named "Flo and Eddie" now? Why did they call themselves that, I wonder...? Anyways... yeah, they're both members of the Turtles.
