Geddy (Self-Demonstrating)

...Hello? Is there anybody here?
Hey there! It's nice to meet you. Do you want to come and sit down next to me? I can talk to you about music, if you'd like. My name's Geddy, by the way. I'm Kimberly Bond's Primarina, and I'm the fifth Pokemon she caught on her journey.
...Oh? What's that?
You-- you came here to learn more about me?
Well, I... (blushes) I wouldn't really say that I like to talk about myself that much, but if you insist. To be honest, I'm a bit surprised that I was even given the opportunity to make a page in the first place. I do have plenty of things to share about my Trainer and teammates, though... maybe you'd like to hear about them?
...Are you sure?
Well... okay, then. I guess I'll oblige.

Personality
Like I said before, I... don't really like to talk about myself all that much. But if you were to ask me to give an honest description of my personality... well, I try to be as good of a friend as I can be. I mean, I don't think I'm as modest or as kindhearted as my namesake- or for that matter, Ian- but I genuinely do enjoy helping people and Pokemon. Especially Freddie. The poor thing gets choked up by pretty much everything... he has so many panic attacks and I just want to give him a hug... As a matter of fact, I probably would give him a hug if he was here. He doesn't believe in himself as much as he should, and that makes me really sad for him, because I believe in him. I want to see him grow more confident in his abilities, and in himself.
Anyways, like I said before... I try to help people and Pokemon whenever I can. I don't really know what it is about me, but somehow I feel like I can just sense whenever another Pokemon is feeling upset. Or when someone I know is feeling upset. Usually I'll pop out of my PokeBall on my own if that happens. There was this one time where we were watching Ian and Evelyn do their Gym Challenge in Motostoke. My friend Hoops was there too. I wonder how they're doing. Anyways, Kabu promptly sent out his Centiskorch and Gigantamaxed it, and all of a sudden Hoops just started going into a panic attack in the stands. I didn't know what exactly was going on yet, but I figured I might as well help them, because something was clearly wrong. So I just took them aside and listened to what they had to say. I sent them down to the lobby and calmed them down, and then Hoops told me why they were so scared. They'd been burned by a Centiskorch in their youth... It was so horrifying that I burst into tears. I kind of feel bad for them, especially after hearing what happened to them in Ballonlea... I really hope they're okay. Kim told me what happened, and it sounds like everything is mostly okay now, except that Kec still doesn't completely forgive Hoops. I can understand that. If Kim abandoned me... I don't think I could take that.
That's kind of saying a lot, considering that I... don't really like to get angry at people. That being said, though... I have to admit, I do tend to get a bit emotional. Especially regarding anything related to Rush, or something horrible that happened to someone else, or both. Usually I end up bursting into tears, but sometimes... well, if something is particularly unfair to me, I can... go a bit off the rails, to say the least. Don't worry, it's nothing like what happens with Peechee. It's just... well, when I found out about the death of Neil Peart for the first time, let's just say things got a bit... heated. I didn't know how to handle my grief after finding out what had happened to him. It was so unfair to me that such an incredible drummer who had to suffer through so much tragedy had to be taken from his family, his bandmates, and the world in such a sudden and cruel manner. And to make matters even worse, Peart was extremely private, so nobody expected the news of his death... certainly not myself. And well... I think you might be able to guess how I reacted next. It's probably understandable to you why I reacted that way, but to my friends... it was extremely unexpected. Freddie in particular was really scared... and now that I looked back I think I might have been a bit too blunt with my feelings regarding the circumstances. Still, though... sometimes you just have certain feelings that can't really be expressed in any other way.
Um... anyways... I think we should move on now. Besides, it's been a year. I've pretty much gotten over the death anyways.
Now where was I...? Oh right.
I don't just have a good relationship with Freddie, though. I also really like Orwell. Sometimes I can't understand his Newspeak, but that doesn't mean I don't still love him and consider him a friend. After his evolution, Orwell thought that he had become evil, because he was a Dark-type Pokemon. The first one on Kim's team, in fact, and the only one at the time before Jagger joined us. Elton and I both wanted to help him realize the truth, so... we did. Orwell's not evil at all. He's one of the sweetest Pokemon I've ever met. He's willing to be who he is and accepts other Pokemon for who they are too. He's more or less the kind of Pokemon that I want to be.
...Do you think I should mention my battling skills?
I mean, I don't really like to talk about my battling skills all that much, considering that they mostly amount to just status moves, but...
...wait.
You want to hear about them?
Well, in that case... who would I be to not oblige?
Okay, first of all, there's something you should probably know about my battling skills. I... don't really like to battle with physical moves all that much. I can understand why some Pokemon do enjoy it, such as Peechee and Elton, and I can understand the benefits that battling can have: it makes your Pokemon stronger, it helps strengthen the bond between people and Pokemon, and so on. However, battling with physical moves isn't really my cup of tea. Instead, I prefer to use status moves in battle, especially Sing and Growl. Have you heard my Growl attack...? My friends say it's very powerful, but I just like to sing prog rock songs. I didn't even know how powerful the move was until I used it against Ozzy in his capture battle, and, well... he was startled. That's all I'll say about that. (blushes)
Mostly, however, I just like to use Sing. Especially if the song in question is "Rivendell"- that song is one of Freddie's favorites. He usually seems to calm down whenever I sing it... although the song is also so calming that he will sometimes fall asleep. I don't really mind that, though-- that's what Sing was meant to do, after all. However, just because I don't like to use physical moves in battle doesn't mean I won't use them whenever necessary, such as during Gym Battles. In fact, the reason I learned Aqua Jet and Ice Beam from Oshawittle was because I knew I would need at least one physical move for Motostoke. Using only status moves just wasn't going to cut it in a full-fledged Gym setting, and while I was initially nervous at first, I wanted to show Kim that I could be a good physical battler, too. Oshawittle's a great teacher, by the way. Seriously, I owe him one. Even so, though, I still don't want to faint or freeze the opponent. It hurts me to see Pokemon in such a helpless state... I hope that's not a bad thing. I don't like seeing Pokemon in pain. During Spikemuth I was able to faint the opponent just fine, though... so I think evolving into a Primarina has helped me to be okay with it. It still hurts, though.
Alright... now what?
Oh right! My glasses! You're... probably wondering how I got those, aren't you?
Well, Kim gave them to me in the Motostoke Gym, and I've treasured and worn them ever since. Basically, they're the glasses that my namesake wears, but they have red lenses. They're not Choice Specs, they're just a pair of round red glasses that I like to wear.
Also, when Kim first met me, she made a personality profile for me, like she does for all of her Pokemon. I don't find it weird or anything like that; it's just how Kim gets to know her Pokemon more. I can show you mine if you'd like to see it...
...you would?
Well, even if you don't... I- I'll just leave it here in case. (blushes)
"NEW POKEMON: GEDDY THE POPPLIO. EVEN THOUGH I'VE ONLY BEEN WITH HIM FOR A SHORT TIME I CAN ALREADY GET A SENSE OF HIS PERSONALITY. HE IS EVERY BIT AS SWEET, HUMBLE AND MODEST AS HIS NAMESAKE, AND IS PROBABLY EVEN MORE SYMPATHETIC THAN KAYLAN IS. RIGHT NOW AS I AM WRITING THIS HE IS CALMING DOWN AND TALKING TO THE SOBBLE AND SCORBUNNY. HE ALSO LOVES [RUSH] AND [DREAM THEATRE], WHO HE CALLS "METAL RUSH". I AM NOW SITTING HERE WONDERING WHAT HE WOULD THINK OF [NEIL PEART] DYING. RIP [NEIL PEART] 1957-2020. (...) GEDDY IS PROBABLY THE SWEETEST POPPLIO I HAVE EVER MET. HE IS CURRENTLY SINGING "RIVENDELL" TO FREDDIE. AKA THE SOFTEST SONG RUSH HAS EVER RECORDED. I AM ABOUT TO START CRYING."
Kim's too kind. I'm so happy to have a trainer like her.
Details
- Met: Kim met me at a beach in Alola. I forget which beach it was, though, but I have a feeling it was near Hau'oli City.
- Ability: Liquid Voice. It gives my sound-based moves the Water-type. I don't really have much use for this ability, though, because all of my sound-based moves are status moves, so... Then again, like I said before, I'm not really one for battling, so I don't mind.
- Favorite Move: Sing. I usually use it to calm down one of my friends moreso than I use it to attack, but I'm not above using it in battle to put an opponent to sleep.
- Nature: Modest... (chuckles, blushes) Awwww. Thanks, really.
- Characteristic: Alert to sounds. I gotta admit, that's pretty accurate.
- Ball: A Poke Ball, like all of Kim's mons. Nothing too special.
- Evolves in: Well... Freddie and I actually evolved together, during Kim's battle at the Motostoke Gym. Kim wanted to use me in battle against Kabu, and while I understand why she wanted me to use physical moves, I soon learned that I didn't really feel all that comfortable using them-- or at least, using them to faint or freeze someone. I decided to not land the final blow and instead had Peechee do it. Soon after that realization, Freddie was so touched that he started to evolve, and soon afterwards, so did I. Later on, I evolved again during Spikemuth, and that one was really special.
- Hasslemon typing quirk:
(So... everyone on Kimberly Bond's team got typing quirks. Well... they decided on them, anyways. Here's mine. Nothing too special, really. I didn't want to have a quirk with any fancy replacements or what not, so I just put everything in parenthesis and added a less-than sign at the end, so that it looks like a fish. Primarina like fish, after all, and mermaids have fish tails, so... I feel like it makes sense.)<
Known Moves
- : Sing, Growl, Protect
- : Baby-Doll Eyes, Draining Kiss
- : Aqua Jet, Sparkling Aria
- : Ice Beam
Trivia
So... I can share a few more things about me, if you'd like to hear them.
- First of all, I was named after Geddy Lee of Rush. I'm assuming you might have guessed that. If you're not a Rush fan, Geddy Lee is the singer, bassist and keyboardist for the band. Kim says she named me after him in part because of my nature, and also in part because... Well, apparently Primarina are mostly male, despite having a very feminine appearance to them, and in the 1970's when Rush first became a thing, people were very confused as to Geddy Lee's gender. Apparently when people found out he was in fact male, they'd be shocked. It's... a bit amusing to me, honestly.
- So... not to brag, but I'm one of Kim's few mons to have a human form. Ozzy, Kaylan, Dalt, Paul, Sinatra, Dio, and Ringo all have one too. In my human form I'm called "Dirk Weinreb", and both names relate back to my namesake. "Dirk" is a common fan nickname for Geddy Lee, and "Weinreb" comes from Geddy's full name, Geddy Lee Weinreb. Yes, "Weinreb" is his last name. Don't worry... I didn't know that either.
- I have two different chat handles. The first one is DirkSeal21, which is just my handle on a standard chat. I think you can guess where the "21" comes from... Anyways, I've started to use Hasslemon more and more often, and my chat handle there is modestPinniped (MP). I'd say it's pretty accurate, but the thing I really like the most about it is that it abbreviates to MP-- which is also the abbreviation of Moving Pictures, Rush's most famous album.
- Kim also assigned all of her team members two separate character themes: one from Broadway and one "regular" theme. My standard character theme is "The Pass" by Rush. I've heard it's an anti-suicide song, and I feel like it fits me pretty well. If someone I know was to try to commit suicide, I'd definitely want to stop them from doing it. I've also heard that it was one of Geddy Lee's favorite songs to perform with Rush. My Broadway character theme song, meanwhile, is this song called "You Will Be Found" from this musical called Dear Evan Hansen. I've heard it before, and I have to admit, it's pretty accurate. I kind of want to sing this song to Freddie now.
Anyways, I-- oh! I'm sorry. I think Kim is calling me for something.
I have to go. Bye for now! It was really nice to meet you!
Maybe we could talk again some other time?
