John (Kim)

John is Kimberly Bond's Orbeetle, and the twentieth Pokemon she caught on her journey, as well as the fourteenth she caught in the Galar region.

Personality

As is befitting his namesake, John is snarky, sarcastic, and extremely outspoken. He is often shown making cracks at everything around him and getting into arguments with other Beatlemons, most notably Paul (who doesn't seem to recognize his sarcasm), and George (who serves as his minder). In his first appearance he straight-up referred to the people at the Hammerlocke Banquet as "idiots", and when George told him off his response was "I bet you you're wrong." Later on, he proceeded to make friendly jabs at Boseman from afar during his evolution into a Chandelure. However, he usually holds back his sarcasm and insults when speaking to Ringo, which may be both due to his cuteness (Ringo is a Joltik) and his tragic past before being caught by Kim. In addition to his sarcastic nature, John also has a bit of an ego, usually believing himself to be better than all other members of his species as a result of his size. While most Orbeetle are 1'08", John is three feet taller, standing at a towering 4'08". As a result, he usually is grateful when others notice him and point out his size (as he did with Ringo and Kim), and can become annoyed if no one is paying attention to him at any given moment. As an Orbeetle, John also has a very high intelligence, and gets very annoyed if someone hasn't heard of something that he believes should be common knowledge.

John is also well-known for his adoration of Monty Python's Flying Circus-- he often quotes the "Self-Defense Against Fresh Fruit" skit, especially if someone asks him "suppose he's got a pointed stick?" to which he will always reply, "SHADDAP!" During the NDD performance of "Phantom of the Opera", John mentioned that while he enjoyed it, he preferred Spamalot, and later on he, George, Paul, and Ringo talked about their favorite skits from the Pythons. Despite his sarcastic nature, however, John is still a Beatlemon-- which means he is a peacekeeper, albeit a bit of a rude one. He despises gratuitous violence, gun violence, and racism. Mark Chapman is his sworn enemy, and December 8th is a personal day of mourning and ranting for him, as he curses out Chapman, roasts him brutally, and then furiously tears into him for murdering John Lennon. He naturally adores the music of the Beatles, just as all the other Beatlemons do, and the only members of Kimberly Bond's team that he would never roast under any circumstances are Freddie (for obvious reasons), Elton (because he'd leap to Freddie's defense immediately and is also Fire-type), and Dio (who was gaslit). Everyone else, however, is fair game-- though John still tries to not insult Grohl's family for obvious reasons.

Kim's personality profile on him reads as follows:

"NEW POKEMON CAUGHT: JOHN THE ORBEETLE. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I PRESENT TO YOU COLTON KENDALL REVER IF HE WAS AN AURIC. BASED ON WHAT I'VE SEEN OF HIM, JOHN IS JUST AS SNARKY AND SARCASTIC AS HIS NAMESAKE BEATLE, AND JUST AS EASILY PRONE TO OUTBURSTS. HE USES THE PHRASE 'BLOODY HELL' A LOT, WHICH I'M SURE DAVE WOULD BE HAPPY WITH. INCIDENTALLY, HE ALSO HAS A BIT OF AN EGO ABOUT HIM, AND IS ALSO THREE TIMES TALLER THAN A REGULAR ORBEETLE. I CERTAINLY HOPE HE IS NOT CAPABLE OF GIGANTAMAXING. HE ALSO SEEMS TO LOVE MONTY PYTHON. I LIKE HIM ALREADY."

Trivia

  • John was named after John Lennon of the Beatles, which, along with Paul, George, and Ringo, makes him one of the four Beatlemons. Like all of the Beatlemons, the name serves as a pun on his Bug-typing. However, John Lennon was also notoriously the most sarcastic of the four Beatles, shown repeatedly in interviews. He and Paul McCartney would get into arguments when writing songs together, which reflects both John's natural sarcasm and Sassy nature as well as the fact that he and Paul often get into spats with each other.
  • According to Goldenheart388, John's Hasslemon handle is freudianSarcasm (FS), which serves as a reference to his massive intellect and ego (i.e. the "Freudian ego") as well as to his natural snarky behavior.
  • According to Goldenheart388, John's regular character theme is "Come Together" by the Beatles, his Broadway character theme is "Will Power" from Something Rotten!, and his headcanon voice is that of another famous British John-- specifically, John Oliver.
