MC-DC, commonly known by their nickname of Emcee, is Laurie Hitoki's Magnezone, and the third Pokemon they caught on their initial journey, as well as their second in the wake of Cole's disappearance.

Appearance

In their Pokemon form, MC-DC appears as a regular Magnezone. Their center eye mainly serves as a target identifier and recording device moreso than an actual eye, and only "turns on" and moves once Emcee touches it with one of their magnets; at which point their vision will go red.

In their human form (prospective name Bonnie Johnson), Emcee appears as a well-dressed, gray-haired (albiet dyed; they are a "natural" blond) individual wearing a gray suit, pants, and shoes, along with a black bow tie and a red undershirt, representing their center eye (it appropriately has a hidden recording device inside of it). They also wear a pair of black-rimmed glasses with red lenses, a yellow hat, and gloves tipped with red and blue accents. Sometimes, they are also seen in a gray hat, and are very commonly seen carrying a microphone.

Trivia

  • MC-DC's nickname is derived from the Australian metal band AC/DC, as well as a radio emcee (abbreviated as MC), befitting his personality and his tendency to speak akin to a 1930's radio announcer. It is also inspired, in part, by R2-D2 from the Star Wars franchise. Due to them being named after a band rather than an artist, MC-DC's birthday is shared with that of the first lead singer of the band, Bon Scott-- July 9th.
  • According to Goldenheart388, MC-DC's Hasslemon handle is telecastMaster (TM). The "telecast" part serves as a reference to Emcee being able to send out and record radio and television broadcasts across wires to thousands of people, whereas "master" relates to both their slight ego as well as being a reference to the Metallica song "Master of Puppets", referencing their relationship with Hetfield (similarly to how Hetfield's handle has an AC/DC reference in it).
  • MC-DC and Hetfield are the only members of Laurie's team to have non-alliterative Hasslemon handles, and are also the only two mons that Goldenheart388 has written for to be on the same team and share a Hasslemon handle abbreviation (that being TM).
  • According to Goldenheart388, MC-DC's regular artist-matched character theme is "Shot in the Dark" by AC/DC, their non artist-matched character theme is "Radio Gaga" by Queen, and their Japanese character theme is "Shake & Shake" by Sumika, the opening to Bishounen Tanteidan. All three songs serve as summations of MC-DC's upbeat, optimistic, and fun-loving personality, with "Shake & Shake" in particular having lyrics such as "I believe now is the best time ever". "Shot in the Dark", meanwhile, goes more into Emcee's radio transmitting abilties and fun-loving desires, while Radio Gaga relates back to Emcee's love of the radio. Their headcanon voice, meanwhile, is Edward Bosco as Alastor in Hazbin Hotel, who also served as a partial basis for the character along with Papyrus from Undertale.
  • MC-DC's Japanese character theme was almost "Flyers" by BRADIO (the opening to Death Parade), but was changed to "Shake & Shake" due to the latter having more fitting lyrics and a more fitting big band-esque instrumentation that would not sound out of place on an old radio.
  • MC-DC's Hasslemon handle, telecastMaster (TM), was selected by a Pesterchum handle generator.
  • MC-DC, along with Hetfield, Draiman, D'Autry, and Slipknot, was originally planned to be on Kimberly Bond's team; Emcee specifically would have been her 24th capture following Jinx. All of them were later given to Laurie so as to not give Kim too many mons in the future; the sole vestiges of Emcee originally being on Kim's team are their Hasslemon handle (unchanged from the original Pesterchum handle generation) and them having a Broadway character theme ("You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile", from the musical Annie). Their typing quirk and headcanon voice were also carried over.
  • MC-DC's human name, Bonnie Johnson, references the two lead singers of AC/DC- Bon Scott and Brian Johnson, respectively.
  • MC-DC took the least time to evolve into their final form out of all the characters Goldenheart388 has written for, taking only 5 days and a single post for them to go from Magnemite to Magneton to Magnezone. According to Goldenheart388, this was due to her being unsure of how to write for a three-eyed, three-headed Emcee (see below for her thoughts on Magnezone).
  • Emcee's center eye functioning more akin to a recording camera and targeter rather than an actual eye is a reference to how Goldenheart388 herself views Magnezone's third eye- not as a "true" eye that can move and emote, but more akin to a goofy clown nose, only ever being used as an "eye" and only ever moving around for targeting purposes. The idea of Magnezone's third eye being seen as a goofy clown nose has also been a very common misconception by many Pokemon fans to this day, and is also the reason why Emcee themselves has expressed fantasies of them dressing up in clown makeup to entertain children.
