Boseman (Self-Demonstrating)

For best results, read this in the voice of the late Chadwick Boseman-- or for that matter, any actor who has played Black Panther.

Ah. It appears that a visitor has arrived. Well, then. I will do my best to acquaint myself with this new and mysterious visitor. I do not know why they are here, but it is the polite thing to do regardless.

With that said, greetings. I am Boseman, and I am Kimberly Bond's Chandelure. I am the sixteenth Pokemon that Kim caught on her Pokemon journey, and the eleventh that she caught in Galar specifically. I admire your strength, visitor, and I hope we can better acquaint ourselves in the future.

For now, however... shall we begin?

Personality

To begin, there is one thing I admire in my fellow Pokemon above all else, and that is their strength and power, whether it be in battle or in terms of the bond between their Trainer and fellow Pokemon. I have witnessed both of these firsthand with regards to Kim. When I first took notice of her in the Motostoke Stadium Puzzle Room I noticed that she had with her a Kingler, whose name I would later find out was Peechee. I will admit that I was slightly put off by his... ardent desire for battling, and am still trying to understand his method of communication, which he calls "Nadsat". However, the first thing I took notice of was his absolute strength in battle-- he used Guillotine, a one-hit knockout move, to knock out every single opponent. I had never seen such an intense display of strength before, and thus decided to follow this Trainer and her Kingler to the pitch.

Once I was there, I witnessed even more incredible displays of strength that must be commended. First and foremost, her Popplio and Sobble, who were named Geddy and Freddie, evolved simultaneously into a Brionne and Drizzile, respectively. If that is not the true power of a bond of friendship between Pokemon, I do not believe anything else is. The two of them proceeded to fight for each other over the course of the battle. Freddie especially showed true bravery by emerging from his PokeBall and declaring that he would fight Kabu's Ninetales so that none of his friends would get hurt. It was very moving, to say the least, and it was at that moment that I took great interest in Kim as a Trainer, and decided that I had to be her partner.

In addition to my admiration of one's strength and power, I will admit that I can be a rather stoic and intuitive Pokemon. I am very serious when it comes to battle, and do not tend to show much emotion in my everyday life. There are, however, a few exceptions to this, many of them involving my friends or allies being hurt in any way. Suffice it to say, I do not wish to see my friends get hurt by powerful enemies, and anybody who does hurt my friends is absolutely going to pay.

You have been warned. Heed it.

Incidentally, another exception is when I myself am in battle, during which I absolutely refuse to surrender unless such circumstances align where I have no choice but to do so. If ever I am hit by a super-effective move, you can expect to hear me cry out "YIBAMBE" a few seconds later. When I am in battle, I usually take advantage of every move my opponent makes and come up with some kind of strategy to combat it. However, I will also admit that I can be a bit of a trickster in battle-- I particularly enjoy using Minimize to raise my evasiveness and avoid supereffective hits. My main battle strategy, however, involves confusing or burning the opponent before hitting them with Hex, a move that does double damage when a Pokemon is affected by a status condition.

All of the aspects of my personality that I mentioned above compelled my Trainer to name me after the late actor Chadwick Boseman, who played the Ebony Liepard T'Challa in the MCU films. I consider it an absolute honor that Kim would name me after such an incredible actor. His movies and his performance as the Ebony Liepard shall go down in history in my mind as some of the best movies of all time. Incidentally, I also noticed that Kim enjoys making personality profiles of her Pokemon whenever she catches one. I consider this a somewhat unusual way to get to know one's Pokemon, but I digress-- I am fully willing to accept it. I believe she has made one for me-- an honor which I will admit I am rather humbled by.

• Met: Kim met me in the Motostoke Gym lobby, shortly after her Gym Battle against Kabu.
• Ability: Flash Fire, which gives me immunity to Fire-type moves. It also raises the power of my Fire-type moves by 50% if I am hit by one. I do not mean to brag, that is just what the ability does.
• Favorite Move: I would probably have to say Hex. It is a major part of my battle strategy.
• Nature: Calm. I will admit that this is an accurate description of my personality.
• Characteristic: Good perseverance. I will admit that this is also an accurate description of my personality.
• Ball: I was caught in a Poke Ball, just like all of Kim's other Pokemon.
• Evolves in: I evolved into a Lampent immediately after defeating Allister's Gengar in the Stow-on-Side Stadium. Later on, during the banquet in Hammerlocke, Kim gave me a Dusk Stone and I evolved again into a Chandelure.
• Hasslemon typing quirk: Recently, every MeMber of KiMberly Bond's teaM Was given a typing quirk on the chat service HassleMon. I selected My typing quirk due to the fact that the letters M and W reseMble croWns, and T'Challa Was the ruler of Wakanda in the Ebony Liepard filM and, for that Matter, the entire Marvel CineMatic Universe. While soMe part of Me does Wish that I could have been More elaborate in regards to My quirk, I aM overall satisfied With it, as I feel that it serves as a fitting tribute to My naMesake. Incidentally, My natural stoicisM Might be preventing Me from coMing up With a More elaborate quirk.

Trivia

I would be honored to share a few more things you likely did not know about me:

• As I previously mentioned, I was named after the late Chadwick Boseman, an actor whom I deeply admire. According to Kim, she in part named me after him because of my Ghost-typing, my strong sense of justice and perseverance, and the purple motifs throughout my evolution line. All three of those things make sense-- Chadwick Boseman tragically died at the age of 43 from cancer that he had been fighting for four and a half years; during that time, he made multiple Avengers movies as well as Black Panther. No one in the public even knew he had it until he died. As for the purple coloration... that can be explained as well. T'Challa's Black Panther suit is decorated with purple accents as a result of Vibranium, but it is mostly black-- and black and purple is the color scheme of Lampent and Chandelure. Incidentally, it could also serve as a pun on my species name, given that I was caught as a Litwick, as well as a pun on the phrase "candle in the wind"-- which Boseman certainly was, having left this world far too soon. He is with the ancestors now. Rest in peace.
• I am only the third Pokemon on Kim's team, after Orwell and Peechee, to not be named after a musician. Incidentally, they were asked to do pages, too...
• My main chat handle is ikhandela, which is Xhosa for "candle"-- Xhosa was a common language spoken by the Wakandans in the Ebony Liepard movie. My Hasslemon handle, meanwhile, is unovaForever (UF)... and I believe the origin of that handle should be fairly obvious.
• As I understand it, Kim has given character themes and Broadway character themes to all of her Pokemon, and I was naturally included on that list. I have taken a look at both themes and think they are rather fitting. My main character theme is "Never Break" by John Legend. Initially I did not think the song had anything to do with Chadwick Boseman, until I remembered that it was the song that played during the 20/20 memorial service to him that aired on the day of his death. It is also, in my opinion, a rather fitting description of my stoicism and perserverance. My Broadway character theme, meanwhile, is "He Lives in You" from The Lion King, which I also find to be rather fitting. It is certainly an accurate description of my opinion regarding death, I must admit...
