When she first debuts, River is incredibly shy and not at all confident, scared of speaking and often seen looking at the ground with her ears folded. As time passed, she opened up bit by bit under Carol's care, training for the gym battle with Whitney. After this event, she became much more confident and spoke much more, though she is still rather timid and afraid of going into danger.
