Donut

Donut is Poppy's Cyclizar, and the first she acquired during the Neo-Sinnoh Arc.

Personality

Relaxed and cautious, Donut prefers things to go the way he plans, and gets flustered when they don't. Though he is Poppy's form of transportation, he is capable in battle. He is jealous of when he sees other Dragon-types like Salamence represented on billboards and such, feeling that less vicious-looking Dragon-types like him are never appreciated. He especially doesn't like whenever someone who isn't Poppy tries to get on his back. He was originally hateful towards his team members, but after receiving comfort from them, that has since changed. He now considers everyone on the team valuable, whether they believe it or not - because he knew what it was like seeing himself as worthless, and he'll do everything in his power to ensure no one else feels the way he did.

Backstory

Donut originally belonged to another trainer named Levi, as his Starter, but felt jealousy at seeing him using the other members, especially his Garchomp using him less in battles and gradually paying less attention to him. This led Donut to attempt to get rid of his Pokémon by dumping their Poké Balls in the sea, only to be found out and released. After getting caught in a storm some time later, he caught himself in a Poké Ball to save himself, but was carried out to sea and eventually washed up on an island, where he was eventually found by Brayden, Poppy's brother, who ultimately gave him to the latter as a birthday gift.

Battle Strategy

Donut tends to use his speed to his advantage, dishing out Dragon-type moves the best he can. He listens to whatever Poppy has planned for the battle, but when those plans, well, don't go to plan, he gets flustered and doesn't know what to do. He hits opponents with whatever he can, for instance, if somehow he's facing a Fairy-type, he'll use whatever type of moves that aren't Dragon-type and hope something works out eventually.

Relationships

• Poppy: Lila's gratitude towards Poppy is only beaten out by Donut's, especially after the 'Dream Eater Incident'.
• Shroomy: The two have begun repairing their relationship.
• Sunrise: The two have begun repairing their relationship.
• Crusher: Strangely enough, the two have begun an unlikely friendship - mainly due to Donut never being outright hateful towards him.
• Nessa: He is the first one to notice her personality shift and feels grateful towards her for playing a part in him becoming his best self.
• Stormwind: Although still mildly annoyed by his antics, he still considers him valuable to the team (he considers everyone valuable, actually).
• Lila: After she apologised to him for making him feel left out, the two have started an unlikely friendship.

Trivia

• He is the first Pokémon character who is a Cyclizar.
• His character theme, as jointly decided on by ThunderKitty and Goldenheart388, is "Creep" by Radiohead. Lyrically, the song serves as a representation of Donut’s backstory and insecurities, particularly his jealousy after being pushed aside by Levi, his fears of being abandoned by Poppy, his fears that he’ll never be seen as a “real dragon”— first by Levi’s team and then by Poppy’s own— and his insecurities about how valuable of a team member he actually is. Despite the original explicit version being the one that officially appears on the character theme playlist for Poppy’s mons, the clean version was the originally intended one.
