Personality

In life, Yumeko was a kind individual, working as a miko in the east of Hearthome City. Even though the [Japanese] annexed Hisui and stole the cultural identity of her people, she wasn't bitter towards them. She cared for the people she lived amongst, and she saw the [Japanese] people living in Hearthome city as good company.

As a Pokémon, she has a tendency to act flirtatiously around people and is a bit of a prankster, which was apparent when she first joined Ian's team. She is very protective of her friends and would not allow anyone to hurt them.

Yuki tends to use her air of mystery to her advantage, as well as strike with a series of Ice and Ghost type moves. Yet, for some reason, Ian always calls on her to use Ice Beam.

History

Human

She was born as the daughter of an [Ainu] chief, given the name "Ayay" as a temporary measure to ward off disease, but was changed to "Mike-hekaci" (ミケ・ヘカチ) when she was four. Even when the region of Hisui/Sinnoh had been annexed by the [Japanese] and the [Ainu] had been assimilated into the culture of the [Japanese], denying them the right to hunt and gather, perform their cultural practices, even the right to speak their language, Mike-hekaci (whose [Japanese] name became Yumeko) wasn't stopped from learning how to perform [Ainu] religious ceremonies.

As a teenager, she carried what she knew about the kamui into her work as a miko in a shrine to the east of Hearthome City. In her time as a miko, she would help the people of Hearthome City by hanging ofuda on their doorframes to protect them from malevolent spirits and glitches. As a miko, she also practiced the sacred Kagura dance (though she was more accustomed to the Mai style, because when it comes to the Odori style, it can be hard to maintain a trancelike state for a kagura dance when you keep smashing your face into the floor) and practiced Onmyōdō. She would also interact with the people of Hearthome for whom she cared for, and they treated her well.

However, one night, a snowstorm hits Hearthome City and a young boy named Taijiri got lost in the snowstorm. Yumeko set out to find him and get the young boy home, but she forgot to wear warmer clothes, so she would keep the young Taijiri close to her to keep him warm until he gets him back to his mother, giving him all of her body warmth. After getting Taijiri home safely, Yumeko collapses in the snow and froze to death.

Pokémon

Not much was known about her life as a Pokémon until 2019 in a snowy forest north of Snowpoint City, when Ian accidentally startled her and she froze him with Ice Beam. When Ian and Yumeko met again, they carried on a conversation in Japanese before she asks if she can go with Ian, to which he allows. He throws a Poké Ball and catches her.
